Job Overview
Trend Research assistant will support the macro/micro trend research, annual/seasonal/quarterly trend vision, and enterprise story-telling tactical needs for Macys private and market brands. The position requires the ability to identify, study, and communicate macro trends, consumer behavior shifts, cultural influences, past/future zeitgeist impacts, and emerging style trends for Macy�??s, and specific areas of focus in apparel, accessories, and home. The trend research assistant has a natural curiosity and is able to gather, and work with their partners to synthesize information from a variety of resources into faceted ideas that support the greater needs of the business and trend strategy. This individual will successfully support the trend strategy research needs, and ideas that align with Macy�??s overall direction and customer base and will be responsible for supporting the trend function for an individual area. The individual must be able to prep and participate in research strategies and collaborative ideations that result in consumable ideas that can be applied to brand and category-level design work. A strong ability to organize, collaborate, story-tell, and gain trust to push new ideas into implementation will be key to the success in this role.

Essential Functions
  • Support trend strategy, vision, and fashion application for Macy�??s, and individual areas of focus in partnership with Director of Trend
  • Ability to synthesize information from a variety of resources into commercial ideas.
  • Showcase ability to gather, and organize trend research functions and tools with regard to emerging trends through; curious observation, trend service intel, street-style, runway, art, and music.
  • Contribute to the development of Annual, Seasonal, and Quarterly trend forecast presentations that include Macro Influences, Color, Fabric, Artwork, Silhouette, and Styling Cues across Apparel, Accessories, and Home
  • Supports the build of enterprise-wide story-telling and big-idea moments, experience-led ideas, and broad-based creative collateral that elevates Macys impact as a modern department store.
  • Drives active engagement with the fashion and design community internally and externally in partnership with trend collegues.
  • Effective time management, team collaboration, and material prep that supports the trend strategy, and focused categories of business.
  • Support the trend team as they influence Design, Merchant, and Vendor Partners, through effective and consistent communication, presentation materials, and authority in research and future-focused thinking.
  • Utilize Trend Curve philosophies to ensure commercial application, customer-segment alignment, and fashion pyramid balance.
  • Advise associate/senior trend researcher on trend direction and ideas by brand, and support product design needs as they build product that aligns to proper interpretation of trend strategy.
  • Supports and works with Associate/Senior Trend Researcher on special project requests, and deep dive work needed.
  • Exhibits an engaging and collaborative culture sensibility both within the trend team, and also outside the team with all cross functional partners.
